Sturgeon Moon 2023 seen around the world

The second supermoon of the year was seen in the skies worldwide on Tuesday night, Aug. 1, 2023. The supermoon, called a Sturgeon Moon, saw the moon at its closest point to the Earth, making it look bigger and brighter than normal full moons. Another supermoon is expected at the end of August. The full moon rose above a beer sign at Kauffmann Stadium during a baseball game between the Kansas City Royals and the New York Mets on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2023, in Kansas City, Mo. This is the second of four supermoons to appear in 2023. The moon appears slightly brighter and bigger than normal because it is closer than usual, just 357,530 kilometers (222,159 miles) away. Young football players practice in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Tuesday. The cosmos is offering up a double feature in August, with a pair of supermoonons culminating in a rare blue moon.
